About the Layout

Hennock is a fictional branch line somewhere in the West Country. Pipe Clay is found locally and this provides some of the revenue for the branch, it is also a market town.

Built from plywood with 2x1 bracing, Hennock has its own built in legs making it very quick and simple to erect. The baseboard's are kept aligned with 3mm Society baseboard joiners.

Trackwork is Peco 12mm Hom. Points are operated by the wire in tube method. Simple electrics are the order of the day, all made to move by a Gaugemaster HH controller. I have standardised on an uncoupling system based on the Worsley Works 'West Harptree' couplings. These come as an etch to which a loop is added. This enables hand's off uncoupling .

The Locomotives are all kit built, some with 3SMR brass chassis and others utilising the fold up type from Brynkits. Branchlines 40:1 gearboxes are attached to Mashima open frame motors. All use Romford/Markits wheels but the newest builds will include the 3mm Society finescale and new self quartering types.

Coaching stock includes 'B' Sets from 3mm Society kits. The A30 Autocoach is a Brynkits product. The Hawksworth Autocoach is part 3SMR with Worsley Works Chassis, ends and roof. Worsley Works Collett coach kits are now in use and can be seen in blog entries . A Pullman Car-Fingall-is under construction and Allan has included the build on his Web site.

Wagons are all mostly from the excellent range supplied by The 3MM Society, some 70 in all, the exceptions being the rake of Clay Wagons and Southern Brake Van which are sourced from Finney& Smith.Etched kits including the Road Van are from Finney & Smith.

GWR Container Wagon.

The picture today is of a wagon I purchased from the Society stall some time ago. I bought it cos I liked it. Wether it is a faithful replica of a GWR wagon or its container I know not but I think it is a characterful piece of stock. One that won't appear that often but it does get some comments when it does.
