Hennock was inspired by my eldest daughter whilst sat on the platform of Staverton Station in Devon.
In an effort to get away from Ready to Run I chose 3mm scale to model this layout having previously exhibited a large Tri-ang TT layout. I hope the ramblings that all to frequently appear will be of use to you no matter what scale!
The track diagram shows a simple passing station with a couple of sidings. All track is PECO Hom-12mm gauge with turnouts operated by the wire in tube method. Control is provided by Gaugemaster HH with feedback.
Locos are mostly whitemetal kits running on etched chassis powered by Mashima 9/16 motors with Branchlines 40:1 gearboxes. Wheels are Markits with the latest 3mm Society products being introduced.
Coaches consist of Society 'B' Sets and coaches from etches by Worsley Works, Brynkits and 3SMR. A vast range of wagons are from the 3mm Society list with Finney and Smith providing the China Clay , Gunpowder and a few etched kits.
Hennock has appeared in Railway Modeller and Model Rail.

Cassette Fiddle Yards Abandoned

Since the Brockenhurst Open Day it has been decided to install conventional type fiddle yards.
This is due to fast build up of muck on the Aluminium angle pieces.
Thus I have made two sector plates ,one for each end out of 6mm Plywood. These will be braced at the edges to prevent warping.
I will use Peco 12mm Hom track, as on the layout, which will give the correct height where they meet the running lines. Some form of alignment will be used, I am experimenting with brass tube, soldered to Copper clad paxolin. This will have a length of steel rod and resemble a thin door bolt.
As well as this I have aquired, through e-bay another 3mm kit for an ex-GWR 2-6-0 Mogul. A couple of pieces are missing but price too good to miss. The 3mm Society do the correct 16.5mm wheels, Branchlines 40:1 gearbox and small Mashima motor will complete.
Well off for more Festive Shopping

Scenes from 'Hennock'

New Forest Model Railway Club Open Day

Arrived at 8.30am, set layout up by 8.45 and had running 5 minutes later.
Steady flow of visitors during the day, never seemed to lull in any way. My fellow operator,Nigel, commented that at no time did it drag.
Spoiled it all by buying a Bachmann Std 4 2-6-0 and some Pullman cars for the up coming 4mm layout which is at track laying stage.
All in all a good day out with no pressure but easy to keep things running.
Some photos taken are included.

Brockenhurst Open Day

Well Sunday is Brockenhurst Model Railway Club's Open Day and Hennock is an invited layout. At the moment the layout is still in the loft as we have Relations arriving tomorrow and SWMBO has decreed that tonight is clean up night!
So tomorrow will be a rush, all still to pack and hopefully remember everything.
Hoping to dispose of some RTR OO items, Merchant Navy, Standards, Q1 etc.
Usually a good show so looking forward to it.
The postman (remember them?) brought not one but two invites to Exhibitions this morning. Wimborne and Shepton Mallet, must reason with co-conspiritors before accepting-watch tis space.
