Hennock was inspired by my eldest daughter whilst sat on the platform of Staverton Station in Devon.
In an effort to get away from Ready to Run I chose 3mm scale to model this layout having previously exhibited a large Tri-ang TT layout. I hope the ramblings that all to frequently appear will be of use to you no matter what scale!
The track diagram shows a simple passing station with a couple of sidings. All track is PECO Hom-12mm gauge with turnouts operated by the wire in tube method. Control is provided by Gaugemaster HH with feedback.
Locos are mostly whitemetal kits running on etched chassis powered by Mashima 9/16 motors with Branchlines 40:1 gearboxes. Wheels are Markits with the latest 3mm Society products being introduced.
Coaches consist of Society 'B' Sets and coaches from etches by Worsley Works, Brynkits and 3SMR. A vast range of wagons are from the 3mm Society list with Finney and Smith providing the China Clay , Gunpowder and a few etched kits.
Hennock has appeared in Railway Modeller and Model Rail.
Please visit the links to the left - 3mm is the Premier Scale for modellers-

Dorset Group June 2015 Meeting.

My thanks must go to Nigel for sending me these
images of work progressing on Swanage .
I was unable to attend due to my youngest daughters wedding- she was the one responsible for my introduction to 3mm.
By the looks of it this is a Worsley Works 2-6-4t chassis- a stalwart of the branch in later BR days.

Next meeting will see more work plus Teignford needs some lights for it's trip to Warley so a busy next meeting.

Also I need to redo the frame keeping the boards apart in the car.

Dorset Group meeting 1st May 2015

Well the Dorset Group had its latest meeting at our new exclusive home!
The Dorset 4 are very relaxed at this arrangement and progress is at long last moving forward where Swanage is concerned.
We now have the boards ready to receive track- the first bit was actually laid today.
Thanks are due to our newest 3mm member Colin who has really moved the project- and us forward.
Must post soon about the latest Mixed Traffic- watch this space.

Dorset Group.

After more years than I care to remember, we have given up our regular meeting place. I have tried to enlarge our group , but to no avail.
Because of a muck up of dates we have vacated Furzebrook from immediate effect and there will be no more published meetings.
We will continue to meet- the Dorset Four as we will be from henceforth be known- but at a location known only to us and no longer will we accept further members except by invite only.
Sorry it has come to this but we all feel that this is the way forward and no longer puts pressure to recruit new members or having to justify why we have to charge for our meetings- yes some thought that it was free and why should they have to pay!!!

Nigels single unit Railcar is coming on nicely- the motor bogie he created being more that sufficient to pull itself along.
Hopefully more info at our next meeting.

You never know whats coming!

Our monthly meetings never cease to surprise me.
This month saw the arrival of Peter who has built a marvellous rendition of the narrow gauge lines associated with the clay workings in Purbeck. Please excuse me as I am useless at names. This is built to a gauge, I think, of 32mm. However, Peter wanted to do some touching up of the layout before Railway Modeller does a photoshoot later this month.
Also Peters son is into 009 and he broughyt along his layout as well and they are both shown here.
Although we are the 3mm Society Dorset Group, we appreciate other scales and indeed often steal  gain ideas from others who may have a good idea which can be adapted for use in any scale.
So, don't dismiss other scales as you well may be shooting yourself in the foot as they well may have an answer to your problems, no not those one's, and you may be able to benefit from them- I know I have- several times.

Dorset Group Meeting March 2014.

The groups next meeting is the 1st March, seems that this month has sped  by.
Couldn't resist a new picture of Hennock , some more will be published shortly in a magazine that has approached me to write an article. So I took the chace to indulge myself and take some new shots for that purpose.
Hope to see some of you at the meeting on Saturday.

Dorset Group February 2014 Meeting.

After what seemed the shortest January on record- but certainly the wettest- the February meeting saw a lot of modelling.
Both Colin and Nigel have been busy with Swanage. Colin has refurbished some of the buildings whilst Nigel has been getting to grips with removing trackwork from the old boards.
The buildings will appear but the Goods Shed looks superb, still to have the chimney replaced it really captures its prototype.

A quick update on the group- I have missed posting a report in our 3mm Society Newsletter!
However , all is not lost as the latest details are all on the Meetings and Exhibition schedule list on the blog- look to the left!
I will post a Dorset Group report when I have time- quite a long one this quarter.

Dorset 3mm Meeting November 2013.

Basboard building by the Dorset Group- after all the hobby is supposed to be fun!
Here we see a few bits of wood being calmly assembled into the new baseboards for Swanage.
3"x1" frames topped with some decent 9mm ply will be the new base for the sadly warped original.
Last picture shows the original layout alongside it's new base- at twelve feet it means that we have to recreate the now lost boards but we have the plans, pictures and expertise (joking about the expertise!)
to let the laytout rise again to it's former glory.

Dorset Group September Meeting-2.

Unusually the post starts of with some 'O' Gauge.
The coach, together with three others, was successfully bid on the day of our meeting at Cottees Auction in Wareham. These are Lima based with- apparently- PC self coloured sides.
The Lima wagon is one ebing weathered by Robert.
Back to 3mm- Peter is building wagons to 14.2mm gauge and a couple of pictures showing how far he has progressed

August Dorset Group Meeting.

This months meeting gave us the opportunity to examine Swanage in greater depth. Nigel checked all the electrics which, bearing in mind the time elapsed since the layout was last used, worked.
This included several H&M point motors which positively fired first time. The two transformers located underneath the boards also were found to be electrically safe.
We had a welcome visitor, John O'Dell who braved the summer traffic to be with us. He brought with him a selection of Southern Region items, some of which are illustrated.
I was particularly impressed with his
Gate Set and Maunsell conversions of 1959 vintage. Some books he also showed us illustrated the earlier push pull set on the Swanage Brance in maroon livery a year after the introduction of the 59 Maunsell conversions.
The Standard 4 tank also set your writer with the wish for one of those- impressively built.
More later on our inspections of Swanage but juust enjoy todays pictures.

August Dorset Group Meeting.

Quick note today- our next meeting is this coming Saturday-3rd August 2013.
An opportunity to discuss the information we now have on Swanage. The future extensions needed and the likely expense.
Hennock will attend as layout operation needs to be explained for it's appearance at Warley- my assistant there had better know how it works!
Also , had a call from another member who will visit us weather permitting.
Oh- the Swanage Railway is working until late this month.
Usual place- Furzebrook Village Hall, Wareham. Start at 1pm through to about 6pm.

Dorset Meeting June 2013.

Group members ahve other interests and here are a couple of examples.
Both to'O' Gauge they will form part of the Purbeck Modelling Groups layout of the Swanage Branch.
DAS clay is being used for the overbridge- each stone being carved out individually.
The lower picture shows the use of hand towels being used to cover the contour formers.
Whilst our group is 3mm focused, ther are things to be learnt which apply to all scales.
